an aesthetic of tartan and whisky…

A one of a kind Scottish guitar, named ‘Guitartan’ is being auctioned off to raise money for charity.

The multiscale ‘Flying V’ sporting an oak top made from a whisky barrel and tartan appointments was build by Colin Scott of CSGuitars as part of the Great Guitar Build Off invitational competition.
The instrument is now being auctioned off to raise money for charity, with the proceeds being split between Great Guitar Build Off’s charity which aims to support less fortunate luthiers by offering supplemented or free tools, guitar kits, or education in the form of guitar building courses, and Simon Community Scotland.

The guitar auction is live between 22 June and 2 July 2021 and it is hoped that the ‘Guitartan’ will fetch a handsome sum, generating as much money for charity as possible.
In addition to the guitar auction, a Just Giving page has been set up to allow direct donations to Simon Community Scotland - at time of writing stands at more than £1000.

A new video featuring more of the build process has now been released. This documents some of the challenges Colin faced in the construction of the instrument.

In addition to the auction, a public vote held on by Great Guitar Build Off saw the Guitartan secure almost 50% of the 5000 votes cast, making it the clear favourite of the competition.
